The gelding had been given a chance by the handicapper, who dropped him to the mark of his only success, and had the blinkers refitted instead of his now-usual cheekpieces, but the overall form does not appear to be too solid and a follow-up is far from assured.
Samson Quest, having his first run for the stable, looked most unlucky as he missed the break and could not get out early enough when making his challenge up the home straight. He was beaten in selling company last time and puts the form into perspective.
Night Wolf was always towards the fore and stayed on well for pressure. He has yet to win on the all-weather and is much more at home on the twists and turns of Brighton during the turf season.
Bragadino, who once ran in the 2,000 Guineas, had every chance but failed to see out the trip. The rest finished in a heap just behind, giving more fuel to the fire that the race was particularly weak.
