CARLTON SCROOP had shown a glimpse of ability in maidens last year, and although he hadn't taken to hurdles at Enghein last month he looked the part and was open to improvement in first-time blinkers. Slowly away, he had closed into a challenging position as they straightened up, and although he had to be switched off the rail when running out of room over a furlong out, he then left them standing inside the final furlong.
The Jailer, second in similar company over 1m at Southwell, stayed on for third, ahead of Coffin Dodger, who had helped force it from the start and had her chance.
The first fourwere clear of Cape Latina, who was making headway from the back of the field when she had to be snatched up straightening for home, but then stayed on again when switched outside. She got this longer trip all right and can be rated a bit better than the bare form.
