The winner has been in great form on the all-weather but had been creeping up the handicap for his recent defeats, so it was a good effort on his part to come through on the inside and win so well, Steve Drowne putting to good use the experience he gained on him a week previously. He is still surprisingly babyish for a four-year-old and arguably open to more improvement, but if he goes up too much more for this he could be sold abroad.
Akona Matata had won the opening race on the track seven days previously, but that was a maiden and he had more on his plate in this big field under top-weight, so all credit to him for what looks another improved effort in second. He is going the right way.
Aggravation had a very low draw to overcome and had to come round the outside, so he did really well to finish so close. He has run most of his best races on Polytrack, and he looked just as effective here as he has done at Lingfield.
Fasylitator ran another solid race in fourth, well clear of the pack, who were headed by All Quiet, who came from behind, and Serieux, who saw too much daylight from his outside draw and pulled too hard, then failed to get home after getting to the front in the straight. He is probably better over shorter.
Lincolneurocruiser was hampered and stumbled, hitting the rail, approaching the furlong pole, but for which he would have been closer.
Parnassian struggled from his low draw after a slow start, but he made some late headway and this should put him right for a turf handicap. His trainer is eyeing one at Nottingham and will be hoping the ground doesn't dry out.
Paul Hanagan reported that Mystic Man was struck into behind.
Francis Norton reported that Merrymadcap lost a shoe.
