Red Rudy looked to have made the decisive thrust down the midtrack into the final furlong but edging right late he was run out of it by GOOSE CHASE, who had a hurdling career with Charlie Mann shelved with stamina worries. He had to find reserves here as he was going nowhere two furlongs out before staying on strongly. He is not overbig but has been tumbling the ratings with an unsuccessful winter and has found his level.
Red Rudy remains a maiden but this was a promising seasonal return for new connections and he is another whose rating is easing.
Hollow Jo, who played up in the prelims, looked a likely winner two furlongs out but as soon as he hit the front he edged left.
Jools ended nearer the stands side after edging left up the straight and was not beaten too far under his replacement claimer. It is over five years since an all-weather win but this seasonal return suggests another could be forthcoming at this lowly level - he is still rated much higher on turf, having won off a 13lb higher mark last summer.
