RIFLEMAN had proved very hard to win with over jumps, but finally got off the mark at his 23rd attempt. He did it decisively enough as well, travelling well and drawing clear going to the last. According to his trainer Robert Gray he needs fast ground, but in view of his previous record, it is no certainty he will reproduce this next time.
Contract Scotland also goes well on this better ground, and dropping back in trip, he ran a fair race in second and may be able to find a similar event this spring.
Gangsters R Us is another who is difficult to win with, and Now Then Sid was never going that well and was hanging down the far side.
