Shocking stuff. BARGAIN HUNT, a maiden after 15 starts over jumps before this trip to Hexham, had been well beaten in sellers before this win. He was good enough to take this, however, getting the better of front-runner Timbuktu after collaring him at the final flight. This was ideal for him, but, even granted these conditions again, he might struggle to pick up another race off a higher rating.

Timbuktu clearly benefited from his first-time blinkers and also the employment of attacking tactics. Racing really generously out in front, he looked like he might have nicked it at one point down the back, but the hill took its toll, and although he rallied once headed he was always going to be beat from soon after the last hurdle.
