PRIMITIVE POPPY had only previously won one race, but it came in May last year, and the mare's appreciation for this time of year once again yielded a win. That said, victory looked most unlikely a mile from home, because the seven-year-old was flat out and apparently going nowhere, but she really knuckleddown where it mattered to grind out the result. This ground was probably as quick as she wants, and she might add to this success granted suitable conditions over the coming weeks.
Political Sox was always up there and ran well, but age is not on his side. Valerun did his best work late, while Izzyizzenty did his best work early, and performed quite pleasingly in first-time blinkers.
Chickapeakray was way below his best, the rider reporting that the horse ran flat.
