This was effectively no better than a seller, but fair play to WEE WILLIAM for defying 11st 13lb to land his first success under Rules. Although a minor point winner, there had been doubts about his stamina going into this. However, stamina proved tobe his forte, for he surged clear on the flat after grabbing the lead at the final fence. A horse who hates soft ground, he will continue to race in the summer while conditions are in his favour.

Highland Brig arrived in fine form having won a maiden hunter chase at this venue last month, and he probably ran just as well here in what was a better race. He came there going well but lost his position when the tempo really increased, eventually putting in his best work after the final fence.

Noel's Pride was under heavy pressure a long way out, but he at least plugged on, as did Barrons Pike, who lost his position going out onto the final circuit.

The Frosty Ferret made early mistakes, but got back onto the heels of the leaders only to weaken up the hill. He will continue to struggle off his mark.
