Testing ground and this was run in a time more than 45 seconds above standard. This was quite a competitive mares' novice and it was won in good style by HELTORNIC, who had been given a good break since falling at Newbury in November. Making all, sheran on in good style up the straight to score eased down. She proved once again that she handles testing ground, and as she was tending to jump to her right on the final circuit, a right-handed track should suit her well.

Cloudless Dawn wasn't disgraced considering her best form had been on better ground, and she would have been closer had she not blundered at the last. She hung left after that, and left the impression she'll do better back on good going.

My Rosie Ribbons may do better in small handicaps, Little Venus hung left when asked for her effort and was a shade disappointing after her debut fourth in a Wetherby bumper, while Dillay Brook, who had finished in front of her at Wetherby lost all chance when badly hampered at the seventh though she had lost a few places.
