PEOPLETON BROOK showed more than enough on his recent Thirsk reappearance from the ‘wrong' side to suggest he was as good as ever and he is clearly not reliant on a fast surface - on which he'd previously done all his winning. Having broken smartly from stall eight, he was soon on the pace and although he was being driven passing the two-furlong marker, he gradually began to assert in the final furlong to win in authoritative fashion. This was his highest career winning mark, but he's in great heart and it looks as though Milton Bradley's team have struck form.
Fizzlephut appreciated the removal of the cheekpieces when second at Ripon a week earlier and he continued that improved form, racing prominently throughout despite being 2lb higher.
Purus ran an eyecatching race. Having been off the bridle some way out in rear, he finally decided to respond to his rider's vigorous urgings entering the final furlong and finished to good effect. Having won over seven furlongs and a mile on the continent, he looks as though the step back up in trip will suit. Lindbergh could only plug on at one pace.
