The field came up the stands' side rail, which suited those drawn low, and with Kempsey, Chinalea and Oranmore Castle helping to set a pretty strong pace, things fell into place for ROMANY NIGHTS, who has come to hand earlier than normal, having only made his seasonal reappearance at Wolverhampton on Monday. Not badly treated off a mark of 77, connections reported that they felt he'd need more time and hadn't come in his coat, but those concerns didn't stop the six-year-old travelling stylishly on the heels of the pacesetters and pouncing at the furlong marker, where he cleared right away from his field. He will face the wrath of the assessor but there could be more to come and his trainer thinks a race like the Great St Wilfrid could be within his range.

Pic Up Sticks, an honourable servant to Mick Channon and now in the care of Brendan Powell, shaped with promise, although he was no match for the winner. He travelled at least as well as the winner, but he was unable to quicken sufficiently when finally asked to do so. Although he has won off higher marks, he's not the force of old and may need a few more pounds off his back before success comes his way again.
