Little strength in depth to a Listed contest that rarely provides any significant Derby pointers and is realistically a Classic trial in name only. That said, there can be no mistaking the promise of CHAMPIONSHIP POINT, who could have done no more than he did in destroying clearly inferior rivals in the style of a horse capable of holding his own at a much higher level. A Chesham winner at two, the form of his subsequent French Listed second at Deauville took a huge boost when Linda's Lad, to whom hewas conceding 5lb, went on to win a Group 1 event. He travelled like a dream and demonstrated a turn of foot that is only available to horses of the highest quality - his jockey was afforded the luxury of being able to ease his mount down inside the final half-furlong. Bookmakers reacted by cutting him to a general 25-1 for Epsom, which connections were adamant was now the plan, and although the form of this race is nothing special, he has at least proved he'll get the trip and handles undulations. Senor Dali, who represented last year's winning connections, was an interesting candidate, as he was thrown in here without having lost his maiden tag. But after travelling nicely off the pace and going every bit as well as the winner three out, he found nil when asked to quicken.

London Express, who would have been suited by the ease in the ground, was a spent force passing the two pole, while Fiddlers Wood is nothing more than a handicapper and was flying too high here.
