This looked no more than a fair juvenile fillies' maiden by Goodwood standards, with those who had raced before looking nothing special. It was also an arduous test for the youngsters due to the effects of a blustery shower, and perhaps because of that, experience told, the four newcomers filling the last four places.
CAVORT left behind a poor debut effort - when in season - with a promising Leicester second, and she stepped up on that again to win this. Helpedby getting cover for much of the race, she was produced wide and showed a fair turn of foot, and, although pressed hard by Baltic Belle close home, she was always on top. She's not very big but she's tough, and a seventh furlong will help.
Baltic Belle was on the pace from the off but she was always racing into the wind, unlike the winner. She doesn't look anything special but she won't have any trouble winning an ordinary maiden.
Harvest Joy made her debut in a warmish conditions race, and there will be races she can take. She was going on nicely at the finish and can do better, as can Bathwick Fancy, who did nothing wrong on her first start.
Fine Day and Majestic Roi come from powerful yards but both disappointed afterrunning markedly different races. Fine Day was always struggling to lay up, probably through keenness, but she finished quite well and ought to leave this form behind. Majestic Roi, on the other hand, unleashed plenty of early toe only to weaken inside the final quarter-mile. She started favourite here, which suggests better was expected, and it's very likely that she found racing from the front into the nasty weather to be too much for her on her introduction. She deserves another chance.
