This was probably the most interesting race on the card, but it turned into a complete rout for BLAZING BAILEY, who maintained his unbeaten record over hurdles very impressively. He won on much softer ground over course and distance on his hurdling debut, though he had winning form on fast ground on the Flat, and pulled clear after being sent to the front jumping the third-last. He is in a couple of races at Cheltenham and may have one more run beforehand, but he does look something of a stayer.
Flaming Weapon had faced two stiff tasks since winning at Plumpton on his debut over hurdles, but did much better at this slightly more realistic level and finished a clear second best. There should be another race in him if not too highly tried.
Before Time showed his first sign of ability last time out and ran with credit again here, but he is rated only 88 and may be better off in handicaps.
Most eyes were on Nicky Henderson's hurdling newcomer Bayazid, a dual winner over middle distances in the French provinces, but after showing up for about a mile and a half, he faded rather disappointingly. Perhaps the ground wasn't ideal, but he does have plenty of questions to answer.
Prime Contender, a market mover on the exchanges in the morning, is already rated 123 and was particularly disappointing.
*The Chequered Lady was reported to have finished distressed.
