This hunter chase produced something of an upset with the odds-on Cantarinho being turned over by GALWAY BREEZE, who served it up to the market leader on the run to the second-last and then opened up a decisive advantage. The winner did have something to find according to the form book but he was proven on heavy ground and the trip was right, so perhaps his success should not have come as too much of a shock. The Grand National fences will beckon in April as Aintree's big hunter chase is his main objective.

Cantarinho came here having won two point-to-points but he had not proven he was back to his best, and he certainly was not at his best here. Even so, he was not disgraced, and he was beaten here 12 months ago - albeit by the classy Sleeping Night - so there is every chance he will soon resume winning ways, particularly when the ground is not so soft.
