A poor event but connections of SCONCED will have been delighted as the 11-year-old won his first race under Rules at the 21st attempt. He made the early running and then chased the eventual runner-up, but looked to have thrown away his chance with ablunder at the second-last. However, the mistake only served to galvanise him and he finished full of running to lead again on the run-in. However, he hardly looks one who can be recommended for a follow-up success.

Rookery Lad was conceding 21lb to the winner over a distance in excess of his best and that cost him in the end. He jumped well throughout and, after taking the lead at the seventh, held a clear advantage two out until his stamina ran out after the last. He can win at a similar level around here over a shorter trip.
