Supporters of TOKALA were given a serious fright before the heavily odds-on shot secured a second success over hurdles to add to his fine efforts in bumper company. It all appeared to be plain sailing for the five-year-old as he took up the running at the sixth, but when the eventual runner-up came to join him at the second-last there was a distinct smell of burnt fingers. However, when presented with his opportunity, the favourite rallied strongly and his trainer suggested that the ground, track andweight he was giving to the runner-up were responsible for their close proximity. The winner can do better on a more conventional track and should not be judged on this effort.

Vertical Bloom just kept on at the same pace as she chased the leaders home, but she can do better when pitched against her own sex.
