As a trial this race has only very occasional relevance these days, and while all three of these hold entries in either the Derby or the Oaks, it will be very surprising if any of them figure prominently.

Locally trained BEFORE YOU GO had gained both of his wins on the Polytrack at Lingfield, the latest of them from a mark of only 80 in a three-runner handicap. Held up in last behind just a steady gallop, he looked the first in trouble when the pace picked up in the straight, but his stamina gradually came into play. All three runners had every chance approaching the furlong marker, but he gradually asserted and won convincingly enough in the end, although with nothing in hand.

Connections intend bringing him back for the Derby, and they may take him to Lingfield for the Trial first. But while he is obviously open to improvement when he steps up in distance, very fast ground would be a concern as he's by Sadler's Wells, and he surely needs to improve upwards of another 20lb to have any sort of chance.

Sienna Storm had a mountain to climb on the figures but is from a stable in great form and was the subject of encouraging reports from Michael Hills, who had ridden him in work. To his credit, the other two took their time wear him down, and it looks as if he has improved significantly. He will not have done his handicap mark any good - he might have won a nice prize off his current mark of just 80 - but connections presumably have higher aspirations for him.
