Just an ordinary maiden, but it was ultimately won in style by the once-raced GANDOR, who made virtually all and from 2f out started to pull further and further clear of First Approval, who had pressed him for much of the way. They finished well strung out behind, and he is clearly going the right way.

His trainer's first turf winner from his new base in Newmarket, Gandor looks a useful colt in the making, but the chances of his making a Derby contender - he is still engaged and attracted a 66-1 quote from William Hill - are negligible. Apart from needing to make vast improvement, he would be far from sure to stay.

The rest were beaten upwards of ten lengths, but newcomer Grave Matters was noted putting in good late work after trailing the field and looking unsuited by the track until well into the straight. He could come on considerably for the experience.

The jockeys of Debord and Foreign Envoy reported that their mounts were unsuited by the track.
