That said, ALL THAT AND MORE was the only progressive horse in the line-up, and he had a clear chance if one could forgive his final defeat at three (the only time he had been beaten in four starts) on account of the soft ground. In front from the start, he was clearly going as well as any as they straightened up, and from the best part of 3f out he never looked like being beaten.
Fast ground is evidently a prerequisite, and his campaign will be geared accordingly. He clearly has another good handicap or two in him, and it would be no surprise to see him line up for races like the Wolferton at Royal Ascot and the John Smith's at York. In due course he may be tried over further.
Impeller seemed to appreciate the return to turf and ran as well as he was entitled so off what is a stiff enough mark these days.
Divine Gift. who has also been running on the AW, ran better here too, leaving behind a disappointing effort in the Rosebery at Kempton.
Profit's Reality was 6lb well in here despite his penalty, following a seemingly much improved effort at Ripon, where he beat Blue Monday. However, on this evidence, that soft-ground conditions race form flatters him, as he was back to much nearer his regular mark here, although he stayed on again after becoming outpaced in the straight.
Diego Cao, pulled up in the November Handicap and now making his debut for new connections, ran better here than he had that day, without shaping like an obvious immediate winner.
More interesting was the running of Ofaraby, who was staying on in the closing stages without his rider picking up his whip. He had been held up in last, and the winner had gone clear before he was asked to make any headway. This was his first run in six months and should set him up nicely. He is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Shahzan House, who has a fair record here but has never been a reliable betting proposition, dropped right away on this first run for another new stable.
Lord Mayor disappointed again too.
