AUTUMN GLORY, who sat close to the pace, was always travelling well within himself and, as soon as he took charge, he only needed to be shaken-up to keep on top. It is startling to think that he failed to make the cut in last season's Lincoln and, instead won the Spring Mile at this meeting off a mark of 82. He is now rated 114. He looks to have thrived physically since last year and looks the type to continue his upward curve this season. That said he needs ease in the ground to be seen at his best, so that requirement may count against him from time to time in the summer months.
Hurricane Alan, who sat close to the pace, became briefly outpaced as the tempo increased and then found his path blocked. Switched, he stayed on stoutly inside the last, but lacked the acceleration to trouble the winner.
Calcutta, now in the twilight of his career, was comfortably held on his reappearance, as was Audience, who may need a race or two to bring him to concert pitch.
Membership, who has been racing in Dubai, appeared to travel comfortably off the pace, but he found next to nothing when let down and was not given a hard time when his chance had gone. Quicker ground and a shorter trip suits him better.
