PHANTOM WHISPER, who had the measure of the runner-up Danjet on their debut at Lingfield, confirmed that superiority and underlined his early-season ability. Picking up in good style from the furlong marker, he ran home very strongly. He could be useful, and his trainer is already nominating the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury in June as his objective.
Danjet, an easy winner at Warwick earlier in the week, again showed bags of pace on the far side of the course. She spoiled her chance by hanging to her right in the closing stages, pulling the bit through her mouth in the process. She is very speedy and it was no surprise to hear Chester mentioned among her future plans.
Stephanies Dream fulfilled the promise of her Warwick debut earlier in the week, but lacked the pace of the first two when the chips were down. She has some furnishing to do yet.
Merchant Bankes, from a yard, whose juveniles do well, also shaped with promise, while The London Gang, a stablemate of Danjet, was unable to build on the promise he showed at Kempton last weekend; he looks as though a bit of sun on his back would benefit him.
Don Peter made a satisfactory debut and looks the type to improve with experience, a comment which also applies to William John.
Curtail caught the eye in the paddock, but failed to get into the shake-up. He should do better in time.
