Lord Of Beauty, who had run poorly at Kempton on his previous start, shaped much better this time, for although he made a mistake or two he ran on to take second without getting to the winner.
Fireball Macnamara, back over hurdles, shaped well on ground that wouldn't be ideal for him though, like most of these, he never got to the leaders. He hasn't been the most consistent of performers, so it remains to be seen whether he will reproduce this next time.
Fontanesi is back on a fair mark and shaped a little better though will need to improve again to win.
Better Days, back over hurdles, was gradually outpaced in the final mile, but Through The Rye is an interesting one as this trip wouldn't be ideal for him and he ran better than his finishing position suggests.
