Dropped in behind the leaders on the rails, he showed a tendency to race on and off the bridle, but he was always finding reserves and, when the final dash to the line developed in the short straight, and the field panned out, because of the false rail, he burst through to lead and, despite going slightly left-handed, ran on nicely to the line. Just how far he can climb up the ladder remains to be seen, but he has the make and shape of a decent horse, plus he's a son of Montjeu.
Dragon Dancer, one of two maidens in the field, had run well against the well-regarded Hall Bek at Newbury last time, and again performed with credit. Always close up, he made his move rounding the final turn and, despite appearing to carry his head a touch high under strong pressure, kept on to the line. He is clearly a smart horse in the making, but he might not want the ground any quicker than this.
Yarqus, who is rated 91, ran a sound enough race, running beyond a mile for the first time, though in a race which did not place terrific emphasis on stamina.
Primary, who looked a picture beforehand, set the running and was allowed an uncontested lead, which Frankie Dettori understandably tried to dictate on his own terms. It was not until the four-furlong pole that Dettori attempted to inject a raising of the tempo, but Primary, although lengthening, could never shake off his pursuers and he was finally swamped entering the final furlong. More than likely, he failed to stay, rather than being outsprinted, but the fact that just over three lengths covered the entire field leaves an air of suspicion over the value of the form as it stands.
