CAPTAIN MARVELOUS committed the cardinal sin round here of missing the break but it was to his credit that he was soon in touch and despite looking a shade green on the bend he always looked like picking up the leaders, going on 1f out and scoring comfortably. This confirmed the promise of his debut effort and he is clearly a promising colt - he will stay further and should win more races.
Benllech had shaped as though he would learn from the experience on his debut and proved the point with a much-improved effort, headway over 1f out, switched right and keeping on well for second. He will come on again for this and should win a maiden.
Tang deserves plenty of credit as she fared much the best of the newcomers, leading until 1f out. She clearly has the pace to be expected of her speedy pedigree and should come on enough to go very close in a similar grade next time. The quicker conditions helped the speedy Baileys Hilight who did better than he had on a softer surface previously and held off Crystal Ice, who again showed a bit of ability and is likely to progress again. The green Northern Fling made an encouraging debut and should learn from the experience as should fellow newcomer Harriets Dream, who was slow to stride and did not get much room at around halfway.
