Analyis of the race

Few obvious improvers in a contest featuring a higher proportion of relatively exposed runners than is often the case in a three-year-old handicap. But they went a good gallop which, unusually for this track, seemed to suit those coming from off the paceand the eventual first two were both in rear in the main group at halfway.

GLENMUIR had seemed to have few secrets from the handicapper but all was clearly not well with him when he disappointed on his previous start as he had generally run consistently before that and a seven-week break obviously cured what ailed him as he came through on the outside in the straight to lead inside the final furlong. He will be going up in the weights again for this but he is at least as effective at 1m and handles much softer ground so he is not hard to place.

Pitbull ran well from 1lb out of the handicap and though the race was run to suit this did show he stays 7f. Stainley was ridden more conservatively than usual and that helped him turn in a creditable effort on ground plenty firm enough for him. But neither of the pair had been shaping like an obvious imminent handicap winner and their proximity does not indicate this is hot form.

Trans Sonic could not overcome his wide draw while Observatory Star continues to disappoint. Mahrajaan dropped out before the straight - his best efforts have come with more give in the ground and he may have found this surface too firm.
