Considered a much better horse on better ground by his trainer Phillip Hobbs, his rider Richard Johnson made a beeline for the stands rail and had secured the lead four flights out. From then on the odds-on favourite drew steadily clear, only to be eased on the run-in. He is an embryonic chaser whose connections can regard anything he achieves over hurdles a bonus, though on this evidence there should be more to come.
Carew Lad proved an eyecatcher on his first start for two years. The former point-to-point winner should soon be paying his way if this can be believed, even though he is not getting any younger.
Back Among Friends is a keen sort who tried to make all but compromised his chance by jumping left. If he is to make his mark he will have to learn to settle.
