Inchcape Rock was given a sensible ride allowing for the testing conditions and, although taking longer to pick up than one might have expected, would still have won had he not blundered his way through the last hurdle. Even so, given that he was 13lb clear of the eventual winner, he was not at his best and may be best watched until stepping up in trip.
Theflyingscottie was another who would have been suited by the drop in class and offered some hope.
The winner's stablemate Etoile Russe could nottake advantage of the drop in grade, while Strathtay proved disappointing on her return to hurdling and may not have appreciated the testing conditions.
