A smart performance in a strongly-contested handicap by URSIS who made light of a 6lb rise for his all-the-way Wetherby triumph. According to his trainer Jonjo O'Neill, he had not been right afterwards but there was much to like about the way he made a useful rival in Private Be look slow between the last two. It will be interesting to see how the handicapper perceives this display and providing he doesn't go overboard this French-bred can be backed to win again.

Private Be has a tendency to hang left, which displayed itself at Taunton but to the horse's credit was not evident here as he ran as straight as a die, even when headed by the impressive winner at the second-last. Time may show that he was attempting the impossible in trying to give 3lb to Ursis.

Woody Valentine failed to find the necessary improvement from his runs at Cheltenham and Wetherby to get in a blow, while Killing Me Softly can't have been suited by a drop back in trip.

Not Left Yet proved a disappointing favourite and was in trouble early in the straight. This was a drop in class but the third time in as many starts that he's failed to sparkle.
