The jockeys largely described the ground as tacky. All eyes here were on ZEITGEIST, a classy handicapper on the Flat, who was making his hurdling bow and who was sent off at prohibitive odds to make a winning debut. He duly achieved that, but he made hard work of it, taking time to warm to his task in a slowly-run race and then hanging quite badly to his left when asked to go about his business. This was, in the main, disappointing, but at least he won, and another day, and with this experience under his belt, he could be a different proposition. Furthermore, he also wore a visor a couple of times on the Flat and he may require some type of headgear to put him about his job at this game.

The value of this form, however, was put into some sort of perspective by third-placed Step Perfect, whose previous form was nothing out of the ordinary, and fourth-placed Cheery Martyr, who is well exposed and rated only 87.

Ring The Boss, who had shaped with promise here last time, failed to build on that performance here.
