A potentially competitive penultimate race of the hunter chase season, with plenty of these in the form to take a hand, and four were in contention on the run-in. But CORNISH GALE might have emerged a more decisive winner had he not lost momentum when making a mistake four out, rallying to get on top late on the run-in. He is a fair point-to-pointer and showed here that he stays three and a quarter miles

.Border Fusion is an improving hunter chaser but has looked a shade quirky in the past andafter leading two out it was notable that he was not asked for maximum effort early on the run-in - where races here can be won and lost - and he was caught close home.

Darnil is another fair point-to-pointer and he showed a good deal more than onhis hunter chase debut when always prominent.

The first four came clear of Jupiter's Fancy, who ran just respectably, and Victoria's Boy, who had won this race in two of the previous three years but faced slightly tougher opposition on this occasion and is probably not as good as he was at the age of 13.

Good Bone was deliberate at a couple of the fences and got outpaced from four out, while Sir Alf never really got competitive.
