Analyis of the race

Only a handful of this field were demonstrably in good form but they took on a few potentially well-treated chasers in this handicap.

This was probably a fair effort by SILVER DAGGER, who led before two out and scored readily, benefiting from a step up in trip compared with his running here four days earlier. He has improved since fitted with an eyeshield and is the sort to continue to give a good account in modest handicap company.

Vandante ran his best race for a while, leading until two out, though he jumped less than fluently. For all that, he had the run of the race in front, he looks to be back in form judged on this evidence and he could be poised to take advantage of a reduced handicap mark.

Scotmail Lad is just a modest chaser nowadays but he would have finished a bit closer here but for being hampered four out.

Move Over was ultimately well held but Flahive's First was in the process of running a much better race when he lost all chance with a mistake four out, his jockey losing an iron. He was upsides the leader at the time and might well have gone very close on a track where he has a fine record. He has slipped to a decent mark and is one to keep an eye on - particularly when he returns here.

Herecomestanley ran a flat race - he may have had enough for the time being.
