MONET'S GARDEN was a high-class hurdler who had beaten SunAlliance favourite Darkness on his chasing debut three months earlier and he did nothing here to lessen the impression that he is likely to prove just as good over fences. Always to the fore, he went on four-out, was soon clear and had the race in safe-keeping a long way out. His jumping was notably good and he did all that was asked of him with the minimum of fuss. This told us nothing about whether he could cope with the hurly-burly of a championship event at Cheltenham but equally there was nothing to say he will not be effective.
More Flair and Silver Dagger were also in a separate race to Monet's Garden - this is probably not the race in which to judge any of them. But useful hurdler Iron Man had made a good start to his chasing career and was disappointing, leading to four-out, still second at the last but tiring.
