This was run at a fair gallop but not many got into it. PASS ME BY, who had run poorly on his previous start at Ayr, bounced back with a convincing display in a race in which several of his market rivals failed to fire. A good jumper, who stays well, he ran on strongly after taking up the running at the second last, and his trainer views him as a likely National sort.

Russian Sky, who made the running, finished a good second, improving on his first run over fences, and shaping as though he can pick up a similar race.

Drumintine made mistakes in the closing stages after getting right into the race at halfway, and Julius Caesar once again failed to fire over fences and doesn't look to have a great future as a chaser. He jumped markedly left at several fences, which suggests a left-handed track might suit him better, but he's a bit deliberate as well and just doesn't inspire confidence.
