Several of these novice chasers had shown ability over fences but not many got into it up front.

PASS ME BY had been running well over fences and got off the mark in good style, making all, jumping to the right but having the race won some way out and scoring comfortably. He is the sort to continue improving as a chaser.

Kitski stayed on to go second three-out and kept on without threatening the winner, shaping as though a stiffer test may suit. As too did Theatre Knight who was making heavy weather of it at the 10th but stayed on under pressure to take third close home. But he would probably have been only fourth had Bannister Lane's rider not seemed to take things a shade easy on the run-in. He had taken the winner on for much of the way and is better than the bare form.
