The form of the race revolved around Winning Spirit, whose good debut effort at Newmarket has been franked, but again he did not impress moving to post and took a fierce tug as they went a good pace and was run out of it in the final 100 yards with the field starting to bunch up, suggesting it is only modest form.
JOHNNESBURG JACK was beaten a long way on his debut over five but obviously benefited from the experience and more importantly the extra 213yds here. He was full value for the win and a bit more as he had to switch off the inside rail to come round three rivals before winning going away.
Winning Spirit was squeezed out at the start but it did not stop him still taking a strong grip in the pack. He still looked like winning despite wanting to edge left down the camber in the last two furlongs before paying for his exertions.
Cadeaux Du Monde got badly outpaced midrace before enjoying the climb home to suggest he can come into his own through the season as he steps up in trip. Bodes Galaxy, youngest in the field, was too green to do himself justice but when the penny dropped going to the final furlong, he showed there isa race in him. Napoleon Dynamite was betrayed by a lack of tactical pace to take the gap before it closed on him inside the final two furlongs, He had to be reined in and could not be ridden out in the finish, so deserves rating up with the third.
