CHRISTMAS TRUCE was thus denied the front-running role that had suited him so well when he won a Polytrack seller, and in fact his rider was hard at work on him, and initially going nowhere, with more than two furlongs to go. He took his time to get going, but when he got to the front half a furlong out he took off and came right away.
The winning margin flatters the seven-year-old, and he is likely to be struggling again if the Handicapper takes it literally.
Whatatodo ran well in second, leading the main group until taking it up well over a furlong out and then keeping on well enough to decisively hold all bar the winner. This was her first appearance in eight months, and she can win a modest handicap like this.
Magic Warrior never threatened the leaders but kept on for fourth, just ahead of the weakening pace-setters Oh Boy and Miss Madame.
The well-bred Hill Of Clare was making her handicap debut from a mark of only 47. She wasn't disgraced, but on this evidence she may have to drop to banded level to gain those all-important winning brackets.
