A tough act to follow with Secret History having taken this race 12 months earlier and then gone on to land the Group 3 Musidora Stakes, but there were one or two progressive sorts in this field and the quick conditions made it an advantage to be close to the pace, as did the lack of a great gallop, so that this was probably a better effort than it looked from SIR GERARD. Though his was something of a scrambled victory, he seemed less than happy on the ground, was only fourth entering the final furlong and did very well to get up close home the way the race was run. He had shown plenty of potential in his two runs as a juvenile and remains a colt of some promise. He will be seen to better advantage with a stronger pace and less firm ground and ashe should not go up much in the weights for this narrow success, he is well worth keeping on the right side in handicaps.

Rebellion also had the run of the race, leading to over 1f out, but confirmed his recent progress on the all-weather back on turf.

Dame Hester was another to race a shade keenly but ran creditably.

Crosby Vision looks to have done well from two to three but seemed to be unsuited by the firmish ground - he had shown promise as a juvenile and may be worth another chance.

Memphis Man shaped as though he would benefitfrom reverting to a shorter trip.
