Analyis of the race

Not as competitive a handicap as the size of the field might suggest, with doubts aplenty over the field, but they went a good pace up front, which helped set things up for MOUNT USHER, who came through to lead inside the final 1f. This was only his third run since last spring but he is clearly over whatever has ailed him and this unexposed four-year-old may have a little more improvement in him.

The heavy ground was against Flaxby first time out and he showed a lot more back on this quicker surface - indeed, he deserves plenty of credit as he had to make his ground on the outside from his wide draw.

Uhuru Peak did well in blinkers last season, so the way he ran without the headgear on this return from an eight-month break, keeping on for third, was encouraging.

Attaca ran creditably on ground much firmer than when he won at Musselburgh last month while Grandos showed he retains some ability.

Burton Ash and Gem Bien seemed to pay the price for forcing the pace and both were ultimately well held.
