This looked considerably better than the usual maiden auction and should produce plenty of future winners at a higher level, with the front three finishing well clear.
DEADSHOT KEEN confirmed the promise of his debut effort behind the well-regarded Gilded but was again still green. He went right out of the stalls but was soon showing good pace. He hit the front looking as if he would fully justify his short price but had to be shown the whip and pushed out. He has more strengthening up to do and looks the sort to go on progressing.
Lipocco shaped with distinct promise, being by far the youngest in the field as a April 17 foal. He was stuck out wide throughout and wanted to edge left under his jockey's right-handed whip drive but kept on gamely and should soon be winning.
Private Peachey showed good pace and clung on to fourth despite weakening into the final furlong, as did Red Flare.
Splendidio still has plenty to learn. She raced too keenly early.
