There was a breakneck pace and for the first time on the day the field stayed midtrack where the early speed was and used the stands-side half of the track from halfway, atlhough INDIAN MAIDEN made her late charge widest out towards the inside rail.
While there had been plenty of drizzle, they dipped under standard time to confirm the powerful pace from the stalls.
Indian Maiden repeated last year's win despite the addition of a 4lb penalty for her Listed success, although that was clearly offset by her having warmed up for this target while her main rivals were coming here cold.
She finds this uphill five playing to her strengths as she needed every yard to force her head in front after being pushed along midfield from the off.
She has yet to add a Group sprint to her five Listed successes and connections are keen to put that right although there are only two filllies-only Group 3 races for her - the Ballyogan at Leopardstown and then a race at York.
Dhekraa is another who struggled in Group class last year, but that was as a two-year-old and this was a taking comeback against her elders.
She harried trailblazer Sierra Vista and kept on just the better. This showed she remains progressive and back in her own age group can win at least a similar race if not better with this race under her belt.
Sierra Vista finished last season on a high and showed she has come back in good heart. She momentarily looked a winner going to the final furlong but lack of peak fitness just found her out. The trouble is that her success has not been lost on the handicapper and she has limited opportunities.
The bare form of this race suggests she is now too high in the handicap but with her natural speed and tenacity, she can still have a good season and bag a similar Listed contest.
Jewel In The Sand was a shadow of her former self here on this first run in nearly a year. She has plenty to prove on this display.
Sweet Afton was a shade disappointing as another leading contender here on official figures. She could never quite go the pace but this was her seasonal bow and against her elders.
Yomalo was reported to have suffered interference at the start and Siena Gold was reported to have jumped right leaving the stalls.
