GREEN IDEAL, bidding to gain compensation for his fall at Wetherby when running creditably on Boxing Day, duly hit the target in a strongly-run race, given the conditions. In front before three out, he stuck to his task in gritty style all the way tothe line. Proven on this ground, he may be able to win again.

Fountain Brig ran a solid race in defeat, staying on dourly all the way to the line, but just lacking the extra firepower required to overhual the winner close home. The first two came home clear of Corrib Lad, who, having run in snatches, came to the fore looking good approaching three out, but then came up short from the next. Raised 3lb for falling two out on his previous outing when looking as though he was travelling like a winner, the handicapper may now wonder whether that was fair, given that he's not a horse who finds a lot in the closing stages of a race.
