Probably no real stars on show here, but five previous winners and some potentially useful newcomers.
BABY STRANGE got warm in the preliminaries and was generally unimpressive, but he can obviously run a bit and followed up last week's Bath win with a thoroughly convincing display, which saw him quicken up when switched to the rail and win well.
Paul Blockley has one eye on returning here for the Coventry Stakes, but if Baby Strange comes out of this race well he will be out again at Sandown tomorrow in the National Stakes. The ground will be very different there, but itwas on the soft side at Bath and Blockley reckons he will handle really soft ground fine.
La Neige, the other unbeaten colt in the line-up, played up a bit at the start and was slowly away. He had to be switched outside for his effort but was running on well at the finish, without any chance of reaching the winner.
The Old Fella, who came up the rail, made him fight to hold on to third and ran well considering he had not been ona racecourse before. He ought to be able to win a maiden with this run under his belt.
Lingfield winner King's Bastion was up in class here and struggled, racing on the outside of the group.
Dumas, another newcomer, ran creditably in sixth,a long way clear of front-runner Mr Klick and the rest, among whom the Richard Hannon second string Revisionist was a particularly good-looking colt who should be capable of better in due course.(GD)
