INDIAN STEPPES hadn't been entirely convincing at 1m previously, and she had never won on turf, but she had shaped a lot better over the trip at Newmarket on her latest start when denied a clear run, and she made amends here.
Covered up in a race run at a steady early pace which had several of her rivals pulling hard, she was one of half a dozen or so with chances two out but was in front with over a furlong to go and held on well. Shecould return here for the Hunt Cup.
Kelucia, having her second run for a new stable, was also held up and made her effort on the outside. She flashed her tail under pressure and didn't find quite as much as the winner.
Tanzanite is high in the handicap nowadays but was soon in front or disputing it and she ran her usual solid race. She would have preferred more give underfoot.
Astronomia was in the frame in Group 1 company in Australia and a mark of 101 did not look excessive, although her form there was almost impossible to equate directly. She was soon well placed behind Tanzanite but struggled when the race began in earnest and finished a moderate fifth, just ahead of Salamanca, who was under pressure at halfway. It wouldn't be fair to judge her on this, as the stable is still not really firing.
Maria Luisa looked well suited by soft ground in Ireland, and conditions were much quicker here. She was bang there for a long way.
Love Thirty, making her handicap debut, dropped right out to finish well adrift, ahead only of River Of Babylon, who started slowly and then pulled her way to the front, then weakened quickly.(GD)
